FREE Advanced Fiber Splicing Seminars

AFL has launched advanced splicing seminars intended for engineers and professionals, as well as university students, engaged in fiber optic activities involving non-standard and specialty fusion splicing activities. Typical applications for these advanced splicing needs are often in the Medical, Oil and Gas, Fiber Lasers, Optical Manufacturing, and Aerospace markets. These seminars will cover a wide range of applications and solutions for difficult and challenging applications using advanced fusion splicing platforms. The seminars, which will take place around the US, will include:

 

• Explanation of fusion splicing observation and alignment systems and technologies

• Splicing methods and techniques for various specialty and exotic fiber types

• Splicing techniques for dissimilar fiber diameters

• Mode field matching for dissimilar core diameters

• How to utilize control of the arc "plasma zone" for specialty fibers

• Technology considerations and techniques for splicing Large Diameter Fibers (LDF)

• Cleaving and other fiber preparation issues for both LDF (including double clad) and conventional optical fibers

• Splicing polarization maintaining fibers

• High tensile strength splicing considerations

• Splicing considerations for manufacturing operations

• How and when to select recoating as a splice protection method

• Non-splicing applications such as ball-lensing, tapering, and fiber shaping
